How many times do I have to tell these people who blindly want to become DJs... DJing is not a fad... If you're not serious about putting time and effort into it, do yourself a favor... don't even start... It's an expensive endeavor, not to mention time-consuming...

DJing does not equal scratching... Sure, scratching is one way of making sound ( a very expressive one at that )... There is this weird sense of hype surrounding scratching that has brainwashed people (mostly teenagers and college kids) into thinking that DJs who know how to scratch are cool, and those who don't aren't. Listen to other DJs who don't even need to scratch to produce amazing sounds that move people's bodies and minds... and learn.

DJing is not just about Hip Hop. Yes, it did start from Hip Hop, but when I hear these people make stupid comments such as "Oh, you spin techno, you're not a true DJ" I wish I could just smack that guy in the head. Listen to everything!! Even if you just want to spin one genre of music, you should still listen to everything! The more music you listen to, the better DJ you'll become...

Finally... You are NOT going to make a fortune DJing until you build up a name for yourself. The money you earn from early gigs will all be spent on records and other stuff by the time you get your next gig. Trust me. You're gonna want to keep your day job.

Grrr... Maybe I need to get some sleep... -.-;
