Just came back from watching the premier of the Lunar Gala 2002 Video... Man... Whoever edited the footage must've put the video mixer on auto-pilot... The camera angles take turns in random order every 2 seconds or something.... Well, I put in my order anyway, it will remind me of all the sweat that went into the final production of our dance. Yes, even if it occupies about 1/10 of the entire video. :) I also ordered a small poster size panoramic shot of me DJing in the midst of our dance crew. It looks really cool!! I'll scan it and post it up when I get it. I'll also post up the MP3 of our production soon when I get a chance. Stay tuned~~~

I've been meaning to post a little blib about my eager anticipation of the debut of Finalscratch, but I guess I forgot... So check out this video clip of the NAMM 2002 demo session and this one of DJ Craze using it for a 2 hour mixing session. I'm so going to buy this when it comes out. I wonder if they realize the potential of coming up with different types of LPs that are encoded such that it will do things like infinite loops, etc... That will make final scratch go way beyond what the advanced CD decks were able to accomplish with DSP. Dang~~~ I want this NOW!! :)

I bought this hooded fleece a week ago from MixWell. Kee hee. This is my favorite hooded fleece now! My black nike falls to the second place!!! :P Ain't the fleece cuuuuute. :) That is a DJ on two turntables and a mixer on the front in case you haven't realized it yet. :P

Anyway, enuf of my stupid blabbers... -.-... Started virtual crate-digging... found some cool stuff that I plan to incorporate in my next gig. Blend of old skool and mainstream new skool hip hop with a touch of dance hall. I might even throw some jazzy DJ Krush stuff in between if I feel like it... but I doubt I'll have a crowd for it... so whuteva

Dude, I'm totally digging this female DJ's style!! None of the tracks are really hard core, and they're mostly a blend of vocal tracks with a breakbeat base and some added chicago hous-y tracks as well as straight out break beat instrumentals with samples... That makes the set quite melodious and catchy without stepping into the realms of trance, and the beat stays mostly true to breakbeat without crossing over to drum n bass. I suppose that's what they call Florida Funky breaks? I wouldn't enjoy this type of music when I'm at a club, but I would definitely enjoy scratching over them. This stuff is pretty fresh, though. The set is very well mixed in terms of taking you on a little melodic roller coaster ride... Ok, I'm just a sucker for female DJs.. :)

How many times do I have to tell these people who blindly want to become DJs... DJing is not a fad... If you're not serious about putting time and effort into it, do yourself a favor... don't even start... It's an expensive endeavor, not to mention time-consuming...

DJing does not equal scratching... Sure, scratching is one way of making sound ( a very expressive one at that )... There is this weird sense of hype surrounding scratching that has brainwashed people (mostly teenagers and college kids) into thinking that DJs who know how to scratch are cool, and those who don't aren't. Listen to other DJs who don't even need to scratch to produce amazing sounds that move people's bodies and minds... and learn.

DJing is not just about Hip Hop. Yes, it did start from Hip Hop, but when I hear these people make stupid comments such as "Oh, you spin techno, you're not a true DJ" I wish I could just smack that guy in the head. Listen to everything!! Even if you just want to spin one genre of music, you should still listen to everything! The more music you listen to, the better DJ you'll become...

Finally... You are NOT going to make a fortune DJing until you build up a name for yourself. The money you earn from early gigs will all be spent on records and other stuff by the time you get your next gig. Trust me. You're gonna want to keep your day job.

Grrr... Maybe I need to get some sleep... -.-;

I heard Remy Shand's first single Take a message today. Actually, it was the music video that I stumbled across on the net whilst scouting radio station playlists to see what tracks are heavy in rotation. It didn't take too long to sense that this shabby looking canadian kid has talent. Maybe not molded to perfection yet, but certainly a 23 year old who can play ALL the instruments for his first album and produce it by himself has the potential to grow in years to come. I bet many music critics are having a feast with him critiqing his style; accusing him of lack of originality (Marvin Gaye and Al Green's name will be thrown around) or mocking him purely for being a white guy singing soul music. Hey, that's what critics do... criticize others. :) The important thing is that he's still very young and I think he has got what it takes to keep digging in. Props and a warm welcome to another young talent to hit the soul scene. You wanna know what's even more important? I like it. :)

I found a couple MP3s (56kbps, tho) of the mixes I've made way way way back in 1999, I think... This is the type of music I used to spin. Mostly Kpop, Top40s, and Vocal House. You can hear me taking full advantage of my Yamaha SU-10 Sampler and the loop feature of my CDJ-700s in this mix.. This is a "live" mix, not a post-produced mix. That means I recorded this in one shot, not using any software or other hardware gadgets to touch it up or sequence it in any way. That was a way for me to practice my sets to get it down perfect before performing. If you're interested in listening to what my sound was like back in 1999, give this and this a listen. ;)

The people I've met since I've graduated college do not know the fact that I was a big metal head and the lead guitarist of a band named Discomfort Index 90 when I was highschool... I still have my beloved PRS CE bolt-on and my warm-sounding Marshall Velvestate 8080 along with a slew of efx pedals... Given all the buzz around nu-metal and pimp rock, perhaps I should pick it up again one of these days. Maybe I could put something together and look for a band that would put vocals on top of it, too.... just a random thought...

One problem I just recently realized is that, all battles use Technics 1200s... and my Turntables are Vestax PDX-2000... The main difference being that mines have straight tone arms, and the 1200s have the S-shaped tone arms... damn... that means none of the markings on my records can be used.... hmm... that basically makes it nearly impossible to do quick juggles... am I going to have to buy a pair of 1200s just for this... or should I just do showcases with my own gear... grrrrr.... I always wanted a pair of 1210s purely due to their dual-voltage function... well... we'll see... it really doesn't matter which one I practice on... so long as I put the markings on them using an S-shaped tone arm... lemme ponder on this for a bit...

Holy shit... I just saw a winterfresh gum commercial. What's the big deal you may ask? Well you should check it out yourself son... Scratching is definitely on the rise to the overground commercial realm... for better or for worse... this really hits it home... good lord... winterfresh... who would've thought... Keep an eye out for the animated winterfresh gum commercial with a grocery store clerk scratching on the scanner with the winterfresh gum.... :)

Found the new music video of "It's going down" from X-ecutioners' Built from Scratch album on Kazaa. This is actually the first time I saw Linkin Park's DJ Mr. Hahn. Linkin Park isn't represented as a whole (The guitarist is from Static X), but I like the music video a lot. Dude... 8 vestax PDX-2000's in a row... ^^ Apart from that the video uses pretty interesting effects ( which I bet any premier user will poo-poo... Hey, it looks cool. :P ) The music is alright.
