Wow.. this was our entire crew for this past Lunar Gala performance. Big enuf, ya think? :) The guys in red are a group of poppers who calls themselves Boogie Monsters, and the punk kids with attitude top left are bboys who want to be referred as the Fantastic Floor. Then of course we had two dope free styler teams: Solid, in baby blue, and e l i X i r, girls in baseball jersies. I'm still patiently awaiting the video of our performance to come out... :) We really came a long way this year with such a big group. Props to Sam, my good hoobae, for organinzing the entire madness and pulling it off. Props go out also to the choreographers of each group for their endless effort, and of course everyone for their awesome performance.

I was watching the Battle Sound Documentary (link fixed) today and came across Rob Swift reiterating the following. I thought it was something worth keeping in mind as an aspiring DJ... I'd like to share it with all fellow DJs out there.

A winner and A loser

A winner always has a program
A loser always has an excuse

A winner sees an answer for every problem
A loser sees a problem in every answer

A winner says "It might be difficult, but it is possible."
A loser says "It may be possible, but it is too difficult."

A winner says "Let's find out."
A loser says "Nobody knows."

A winner wants to
A loser has to

A winner makes time
A loser wastes time

A winner makes commitments
A loser makes promises

A winner says "I'm not as good as I can be."
A loser says "I'm not as bad as others."

A winner praises others
A loser complains about others

A winner is willing to pay the price
A loser expects it handed to him

A winner works like he owns the company
A loser works only for his salary

A winner falls and says, "I fell."
A loser falls and says, "Somebody pushed me."

A winner credits his good luck for winning, even though it isn't good luck.
A loser blames his bad luck for losing, even though it isn't bad luck.

A winner works through a problem.
A loser goes around it and never gets past it.

A winner listens
A loser just waits until it's his turn to talk.

So, I think my goal for this year in terms of my aspiration for the Hip-Hop culture is to nail the routine I was talking about earlier and to start battling in public (read: outside the ivory tower). I've been spinning at college parties too long... It's mainly because I can't work in any club due to my visa status, but I guess there's nothing stopping me from battling... why the hell didn't I think of that before??? Hopefully I'll get the routine down before the end of the semester so that I can start battling come summer time... Sure, I'll probably get my ass kicked left and right, but I gotta start somewhere, right? :) I enjoy it, so it really doesn't matter how well I stack up against others. :P

While I was reading The Source's 150th issue , filled with Hip Hop history lessons that I was so craving for, a colleague of mine (Paul the 'data miner' Gould) was again swift to send me a link to a visualization of Hip Hop artists by geographic location. It's pretty cool, take a look.

A colleague of mine (thanx Paul the 'Data Miner' Gould!) sent me a link to an interview done by NPR on Scratch, The Movie. It's just such a shame that it is not going to be showcased in Pittsburgh... AH!!!! I hate this...

awww zeayah!!! We __ROCKED__ the house last night, babyeeeeeee! Woo-hoo!!! The crowd went wild over our performance. It was really great to be on stage again... Ah... I always enjoy the feeling. Whenever we get the video footage, I'll put it up along with the remix I've made for our crew. At the post party I lost count after my 10th Tequilla shot.... heh heh... I woke up like an hour ago... phew~ I guess that's what happens when I goto a party where I'm not DJing at... :) awwwww zeyah!!! back to work!

I just got a bunch of wax... Most of them are pure beats... Vital for me to come up with a routine that involves lots of juggling. This will be my pet music project once I'm done with Lunar Gala this year: coming up with a 2 - 3 minute routine. Constraint would be to not cliche any of the DMC routines I've seen.... so none of those "all this skratchin' is making me itch" or "fresh" samples... ;) Wish me luck!

Scratch, The Movie started, err..., technically yesterday in Boston.. and it's going around the nation being showcased in select cities... Pittsburgh is, of course, not one of them... dammit.... I guess I'll have to wait for VHS or DVD??? -.-;

Hmm... I don't now how it happened, but I just found out that Asisphonic's .COM domain name had been hi-jacked... so they're gonna get .ORG and .NET with the same name. They have a redirect URL @ http://www.asisphonics.issaucy.com. Update your bookmarks or add a link just in case, yo~

I added some more content to the My Creations page and the Gears I have page to include some reviews and afterthoughts. Check it out if you're curious!

Okay this sux... Turntablelab has FINALLY shipped my order... Not their fault really, but I'm just venting... -.-;... That means the only double wax action I can have is my pair of slap box breaks.... The beats don't really work that well with the tracks that our crew is gonna dance to right afterwards, tho... maybe I'm just gonna create a scratch routine and not really juggle.... throw in a couple drumming bits in there... Given that we don't have a big screen that shows what I'm really doing and that the audience probably could care less about the DJ, I guess maybe I really don't need to go the distance and do a lot of juggling in front of them anyway.... feel kinda sad... but oh well..
